Rev. Alfredo Maldonado Márquez

Rev. Alfredo Maldonado Márquez, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2021. He was born on January 11, 1935 in Morovis, Puerto Rico to Andrés Maldonado and Monserrate Márquez and married his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth Noelia López, on January 8, 1957.

His greatest pastimes included collecting rare coins, playing the “cuatro” guitar, and painting and drawing. He was the consummate reader. He was also passionate about vintage vehicles (and owned a few of his own during his lifetime) and all things antique. He was also an avid and incredibly capable handyman. His ability to readily connect with strangers and create gracious conversations across so many lines of divisions among people was one of his greatest gifts to everyone he met.

His vocational experiences included working as an auto mechanic, motor vehicle license inspector, community organizer, high school student outreach counselor, and English schoolteacher. Yet, of all his vocational experiences, his greatest passion was serving as a pastor of several congregations in the Pentecostal tradition.

Rev. Maldonado’s favorite words of inspiration were: “From a great God, expect great things” (“De un Dios grande hay que esperar cosas grandes”). One of his absolute greatest sources of pride was seeing his children reach the pinnacles of their respective vocations in the areas of theological education, ministry, nursing,  criminal justice, and military service.

Rev. Maldonado is survived by his precious wife and life-partner, Ruth; brothers, Manuel Maldonado and Jose Maldonado; sisters, Lydia Maldonado, Minerva Maldonado, and Francisca Maldonado; children, Zaida Maldonado Pérez, Ph.D.; Ida Luz Nogueras, M.T.S.; Alfredo Maldonado, Jr., A.A.S.; Ada W. Santiago, RN, B.S.N.; Samuel Maldonado, B.A.; Milton Maldonado (a State of Massachusetts retired correctional deputy sheriff); David Maldonado, A.A.S.; and his niece/foster daughter, Rosalía Maldonado. He loved his 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Gathering of Family and Friends with Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 10:30 AM and the Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 AM at River City Church, 267 East Highbanks Road, DeBary, Florida 32713.
