James David Jickell

James David Jickell, 74 of DeBary, FL passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021. He was born on January 20, 1947 in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France to James and Joan Jickell.

He was a dedicated law enforcement officer and late in his career a court Deputy with the Orange County Sheriff’s office. Soon after retirement he had decided to grow a beard and began to play the guitar, both of which he received laughs and amusing comments. It brought a smile to his face and so he continued to practice daily and never shaved again.

"Big Dave” was a man of great dignity, respect, and a “Big” heart. Anyone who knew Big Dave knew he had the love of a cold beer and the companionship of a good dog. He was someone who always put others before himself. The love he had for his family was undeniable. Spending time with the family for any reason was important. He was an incredible “papa” who loved watching his grandchildren grow. The games, practices, school functions or just going to the movies, papa was there.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 53 years Kathleen; son David, daughter-in-law Teresa and her son Justin; daughter Paula, son-in-law Rich, granddaughter Dakota, grandson Sage; and son Daniel. He is also survived by his brother Bill; sister Sheila; sister Carol and brother Tony.

Always remembered and Forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 8, 2021 at The Spring House in Gemini Springs Park located at 37 Dirksen Drive DeBary, FL 32713. Please join us between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm in remembrance of Big Dave.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite animal rescue or your local food bank.
