Kenneth John Runge, Sr.

Kenneth John Runge, Sr., 79, died on October 4, 2020. Born in Boston, he moved to central Florida in 1986 from Quincy, MA. Ken also known as Kenny, Big Daddy, Dad, Papa, Brother, Uncle, and Mr. Runge was a generous man who always put everyone's needs above his own. Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Christine (Manning). He is surived by his daughter JoAnn Runge (Richard Batt) of Deltona, son Kenneth J. Runge, Jr. (Deanna) of Altamonte Springs, daughter Karen Wilson (Artie Wilson) of Warwick, RI, Greg Runge of Debary, sister Jane Runge-Rivet (Hank) of Deltona, one nephew and eight grandchildren.


Ken had a wonderful sense of humor and a big smile for everyone he met. Prior to moving to Florida, Ken and his wife owned and ran a family restaurant called Ken's in the Landing in Weymouth.  After ten years, they sold the business and Ken became a Deputy Sheriff in Norfolk County during which time he engaged in numerous security duties which included the New England Patriots home games. King Hussein's family and working on the set of "Witches of Eastwick."  Ken and family moved to Florida and started a family-owned T-shirt and trophy business known as Deltona Trophy.  Ken was a great friend to many and a respected leader in the Deltona community. Ken had an extreme interest in politics and served on the Deltona City commission representing District 2 and later as the city's Vice-Mayor. Ken was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and worked in the Volusia County Code Enforcement Board. Ken loved to play golf and was a member at the Deltona Hills Golf & Country Club for many years and later worked at Heathrow Country Club. Ken beamed with pride and joy watching his children and grandchildren grow, play sports, and engage in their many activities. Ken was Boston Strong and avid fan of all Boston Sports teams. Ken served in the United States Army Reserves and was a former Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. 


A Memorial Service and Celebration of Ken's Life will be held at a later date.  Donations may be made in Ken's memory to MeStrong online or send checks to PO Box 1353 DeLand, Florida 32721 or Halifax Hospice.
