Laura Marilyn Yon, age 89, died peacefully surrounded by her family and caregivers on January 23, 2018 in Deltona, Florida. Marilyn was born on November 26, 1928 to Bertha and Ralph Chalfant in Petersburg, Virginia and had a younger brother, Ronald. Marilyn grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania and graduated from Altoona High School, where she met her future husband, Kenneth W. Yon. She and Ken were married in August of 1951 and spent the next twenty-four years in the Air Force living in Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Indiana, and California. Marilyn was a homemaker, loved raising her children, and volunteered in many different settings while Ken was in the Air Force.  Ken and Marilyn moved to DeBary, Florida after Ken's Air Force retirement. Marilyn was well known in DeBary and the surrounding communities for her Avon business, her faith, and her love of gardening, travel, and cooking.  Ken and Marilyn were married for 62 years and raised two children, Kimberly and Nathan. Marilyn loved her country, her family, and God. She loved and cherished her two granddaughters, Kelly Megan Davis and Kaitlin Elizabeth Davis. Marilyn is predeceased by her husband Ken and her son Nathan. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Jeffrey Davis) Yon-Davis; two granddaughters Kelly Megan Davis and Kaitlin Elizabeth Davis;  her sister-in-law Janet L. Finnegan; one niece  Cynthia Elizabeth Finnegan; and two nephews Thomas Finnegan III and Peter Finnegan. 


A Funeral Service is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Visitation with family and friends will be at 9:30 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church, 26 Dogwood Trail, DeBary, Florida 32713 or to the West Volusia Humane Society, 800 Humane Society Rd. DeLand, Florida 32720.
