Rebecca Anne Updegrave

Rebecca Anne Updegrave (Robertson), 51, of DeLand Florida was released from her pain and suffering and arrived at the gates of heaven on June 7th 2020, 5:15pm at AdventHealth Hospice Care, Fish Memorial Hospital, Orange City Florida after a sudden and brief battle with untreatable pancreatic cancer complicated by a childhood heart condition. Rebecca was born December 17th, 1968 at DeLand Hospital (where she worked up until her illness and was hospitalized before hospice care) and the daughter of Frank (deceased) and Marilyn Robertson of DeLand Florida. She was married in DeLand Florida June 11th, 2019, and a fun-loving and beloved wife of Christopher Lee Updegrave. She graduated Keiser University - Daytona Beach, Florida in 2017 earning an associate degree in Medical Sciences. She was a devoted employee of AdventHealth DeLand Hospital as a Housekeeper for the Environmental Services Department and later was promoted to Supervisor. Her 11 years of dedicated hard work, personality, and service as a motivated healthcare worker did not go unnoticed by her coworkers and superiors (her AdventHealth family); while not only bringing order and cleanness to rooms, but serving countless patients’ spiritual needs as well. She was loved by all and known as Becky! Her greatest joy in her life was always simply being with her children along with belief in God and Jesus Christ as her savior was always present in her life that she relied on everyday. Her passions also included road-trips exploring the woods, swamps, wildlife refuges, and dusty backroads of Volusia County Florida while listening to Pink Floyd and searching for critters, snakes, deer, and bears. A determined photographer of wildlife, birds, and scenery, she was motivated by an insatiable sense of curiosity in these beautiful settings and filled with a sense of happiness and general silliness. She was also a passionate rock hunter, painting uplifting messages and hiding them in local parks in the area. Rebecca had a true love: cats and once enjoyed a registered cat colony at her DeLand Florida home (crazy cat lady of Minnesota Heights, as her husband would say). Rebecca had an unwavering and undying love for her three children: Rachel of Mulberry Florida, Edward and her precious Zoey of Easley, South Carolina, and one granddaughter Freya of Mulberry, Florida. Her brothers are Frank of Big Sandy Texas, Randy (Vicky) of Easley South Carolina, Craig (Jackie) of Winchester, Virginia with numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to AdventHealth Hospice Care, Fish Memorial Hospital, Orange City Florida and Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens 950 Old Sugar Mill Road, Port Orange, Florida 32129. Special thanks to all staff at AdventHealth DeLand, her “Work Family” (as she called them) and further thanks and gratitude to Advent Hospice Fish Memorial Hospital Nurses and Techs for their dedication, selflessness, and heartfelt intensive care, especially performing their duties during a pandemic.

A Memorial Service will be held at Liberty Independent Baptist Church,1365 West Plymouth Avenue, DeLand Florida, 32720 June 11th 2020, 1-3pm (one year marriage anniversary date for Rebecca & Christopher)
