Richard "Rick" Arthur Long
Richard (Rick) Arthur Long died peacefully at South Seminole Hospital on Thursday morning, June 20, 2019, after an evening of music, memories, and love spent with his wife and children.
Rick was born in Portland, Oregon, on February 22, 1945. His teen years in Southern California supplied him with opportunities to experience numerous outdoor activities. As a young man, he served in the Navy as a 1st Class Sonar Technician and Ship’s Diver from 1967 until 1973. Rick's inquisitive mind and thirst for knowledge along with his skills in mechanics and electronics propelled him into many of his hobbies. He obtained a pilot's license, built his first boat, constructed a hookah diving rig, designed and crafted model planes, and was dedicated to gunsmithing and ballistics to achieve long range precision shooting. He held a NRA F-Class High Master Classification Card. Over his life time, he lived his dream of adventure through his many hobbies which included hang gliding, parasailing, hunting, hiking, camping, and every imaginable water sport. He was a retired City of Casselberry. licensed Water Plant Operator. Rick will be remembered most for including the people he knew and loved on his adventures and sharing his wealth of knowledge with them.
Rick is pre-deceased by his father, Richard Chester Long; mother, Flora Erickson; and sister Leslie Dodd. Rick is survived by his wife, Beverly (Karen) Long; brother, Roy Long and wife, Sharon; daughter, Ericka Von Bargen, and husband, Ryan, and their children, Carter (3) and Madoc (1); and son, Richard Ruckman Long, and his children, Jacob (16) and Ethan (6).
Family, friends, and others whose lives Rick touched are invited to the Longwood VFW Post 8207, 1520 North Ronald Reagan Blvd., Longwood, 32750, for a Celebration of Life from 12pm to 3pm. on Saturday, July 6th.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary Longwood VFW Post 8207, 1520 North Ronald Reagan Blvd., Longwood, 32750.
