Sandra Heron Carothers
January 27, 1939 – February 29, 2020
Sandra Heron Carothers born January 27, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA, to William and Carrie Belle Heron, passed away peacefully with Hospice on February 29, 2020 in Orange City, Florida. She was the younger of two children. Sandra spent the first part of her life growing up in Coleville California, a small town 13 miles south of Topaz Lake. She loved growing up in that little town. Her parents owned the Hotel, General Store/Gas station/Restaurant, and even the dance hall. The best part was spending as much time as possible at Twin Lakes CA. She grew up with music all around her. She even learned to play the piano at a very young age. She attended grades 1-12 in Coleville and was the only girl who graduated Coleville High School in 1956.
Sandra met her husband Carl Carothers that same year she graduated and was married March 24, 1957 in Reno, Nevada.
Sandra worked various jobs in her life, but her passion was working as the School Secretary at Obrien Middle School for Douglas Byington. Sandra retired from Washoe County School District with 30 years of service.
Sandra was active in various masonic civic organizations. International Order of Rainbow for Girls and Grand Cross recipient, Worthy Matron of Mono Chapter, Deputy Grand Matron of OES in CA., Worthy Matron of Artemisia Chapter OES, Daughters of the Nile, Grand Officer OES State of NV.
Sandra loved racing jeeps, camping, fishing, golfing, the beach and spending time supporting her children and grandchildren in the organizations they belonged to. Her passion was the love for her family. She was a free spirit, very metaphysical and she lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her sister Patricia Sommers, Reno, NV., Son Jeffery Carothers, Deland, FL., Daughter Lori Koon, Deland, FL., Daughter-in-Law Robin Carothers, NSB, FL Grandchildren Jessica Katz (Dana) NSB, FL, Brian Carothers, Reno, NV, Jennifer Tabor (Chad), Bonnie Koon, Great Grandchildren, Mackinlie, Mia and Madison Katz, Joshua, Katie and Nicholas Tabor, Niece Melanie Dain Sommers, Nephew Merritt Dain (Susan).
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18, 2020 Daytona Beach, FL. The family will at a later date have a portion of her cremains laid to rest at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery alongside her husband Carl Carothers. Her final resting place will be at Twin Lakes CA. with the rest of her family.
